Summer newsletter: beach reading and more events

Folks,

You know how it goes.

You’re packing for the beach, in need of good reading material – not War & Peace but nothing too flimsy either. Something set in an exotic locale, maybe. There needs to be drama, darkness even. A yoga cult gone bad? Might just work …

Allow me to unveil Vanishing Point, a new novella (70 pages) about some very strange goings-on at a Mexican yoga retreat led by the mysterious Yogi Raja. Please be warned, this is unlike any yoga retreat you’ve heard about before! If you would like a review copy, just reply to this email.

The story was part inspired by Cally Taylor’s novel The Lie featuring a retreat in the Himalayas (which became one of the top ten best-selling products across all of Amazon UK last year, deservedly so). Cally’s latest novel, The Missing, is a terrific read too. The photo of us above was taken at CrimeFest in Bristol last month.

There are two other events to mention, one on Tuesday, 12th July in the Derbyshire village of Chelmorton, organised by friend, crime writer and blogger Sarah Ward. Also there will be John Lawton, Bill Rogers, Zoe Sharp and Michael Wood.

Chelmorton looks like an easy enough place to find on the map but, after reading Sarah’s excellent Inspector Francis Sadler crime series, I now know that looks can be deceptive in the Derbyshire Peak District … can’t wait. Details here.

And a year ago I was on a terrific Brit Crime panel about foreign locations with Melanie McGrath, Kate Medina and Quentin Bates; we’re reconvening at London’s very cool Voyager Club on Tuesday, 14th June. If you would like to join (space is limited), please reply to this email.

Have a terrific summer, all! Till next season,

Daniel
